I recently did a post on the Top 6 Moisturisers for Dry Skin so I figured it would only be fair if I did the same post for oily skin. People with oily skin are typically born with it and the level of “oiliness” depends naturally on your environmental and lifestyle factors as well.
Whether or not you take my recommendations, one ingredient you should make sure to avoid is denatured alcohol or any simple alcohols. While denatured alcohol does soak up excess oil in the short run, it causes your skin to produce more oil in the long run. Besides this, avoid mineral oil as that can clog up pores.
So just like my previous post, I will recommend 3 high end and 3 drugstore moisturisers and the reasons why I would recommend them. Hope this helped you guys!
HIGH END MOISTURIZERS FOR OILY SKIN
This gel type moisturiser is super hydrating but leaves your skin matte. Regardless whether you are oily or dry, you need a boost of hydration in your skin so this one is perfect. Don’t be scared by looking at the ingredients and you find oils in this one. Lavender and tea tree oil will actually help with reducing the bacteria on your skin that can cause blemishes.
INGREDIENTS :: Aqua (purified water), stearic acid, glycol distearate, stearyl alcohol, asafetida extract (aqua, butylene glycol, ethoxydiglycol, ferula foetida (asafeotida) root extract), carbomer, DL-panthenol, retinyl palmitate, allantoin, C12-15 alkyl benzoate, caprylic / capric triglyceride, xanthan gum, yeast extract (phyto hyaluronic), camellia oleifera (green tea) leaf extract, tocopheryl acetate (vitamin E acetate), calcium silicate, diazolidynyl urea, ascorbic acid, phenoxyethanol (and) caprylyl glycol (and) sorbic acid, lavandula angustifolia (lavender) oil, salvia (sage) officinalis oil, melaleuca alternifolia oil.
I’m pretty sure everyone with oily skin has heard of this one, even for dry skin folks this one is great on summer days. It absorbs quickly and wouldn’t necessarily classify it as a gel more like a light weight lotion. However, if you are acne prone and are still struggling with it, check the ingredients first and/or consult with your dermatologist because some people I know did have a reaction to it.
INGREDIENTS :: Water Purified, Dimethicone, Isododecane, Butylene Glycol, Bis-PEG-18 Methyl Ether Dimethyl Silane, Glycerin, Laminaria Saccharina Extract, Lactobacillus Ferment, Polygonum Cuspidatum Root Extract, Saccharomyces Lysate Extract, Cucumis Sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, Hordeum Vulgare (Barley) Extract, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seedcake, Caffeine, Sodium Hyaluronate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Sucrose, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria), Polysilicone-11, Pentylene Glycol, Propylene Glycol Dicaprate, Oleth-10, Laureth-23, Laureth-4, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer, Carbomer, Tromethamine, Disodium EDTA, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Yellow 5, Red 4, Yellow 6.
So as summer is coming, I wanted to give an option of a moisturizer that has an SPF in it. Although it has an SPF in it, it is not a typical moisturizer that you should apply when you are planning to tan on the beach and going for a swim as it is not water resistant. It is light weight and pretty fluid so becareful. It spreads out onto your skin and will dry down clear. It is great for under your make up due to the glycerine in it so will definitely adhere to your make up. I recommend applying a thicker layer if you are planning to stay out all day in the sun and you’re wearing makeup as you won’t be able to add an extra layer over your make up.

DRUGSTORE MOISTURIZERS FOR OILY SKIN
An oil free, fragrance free moisturiser that does the job to keep your skin moisturised without feeling greasy and great for acne prone skin. You may have to use a few pumps to moisturise your skin evenly, but you do get 118 ml which isn’t too bad for the quality and price that you get. It’s another great primer you can use on your skin or for a quick natural look, mix it in with you foundation in the morning!
INGREDIENTS :: Water, Glycerin, Octyl Palmitate, Dimethicone, Petrolatum, Cyclomethicone, Soy Sterol, Isopropyl Isostearate, Cetyl Alcohol, PEG-10 Soya Sterol, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Carbomer, Tetrasodium EDTA, Sodium Hydroxide, Diazolidinyl Urea, Ethylparaben, Methylparaben, Propylparaben
I love Simple products mainly because of their ingredients and their price point. If you’re ever in doubt of which item to buy from what brand, check out Simple. This moisturiser with many rich ingredients such as Vitamin E, B5 and corn starch it definitely helps balances out your oil production while being a great primer for underneath your make up. While not the best for very oily skin, it does do the job to leave your skin looking mattified. I do have to say, if you’re really on a budget, you may want to opt for the Neutrogena one as it’s cheaper and there is more inside of it.
INGREDIENTS :: Aqua, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Propylene Glycol, Glyceryl Stearate, Glycerin, Nylon-12, Dimethicone, Panthenol, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Cetearyl Alcohol, Corn Starch Modified, Zinc PCA, PEG-100 Stearate, Sodium Hydroxide, Sodium Hydroxymethylglycinate, Benzophenone-4, Bisabolol, Methylparaben, Tocopheryl Acetate, Dipropylene Glycol, Phytosphingosine, Aloe Barbadensis Extract, Anthemis Nobilis Oil, Lavandula Angustifolia Oil, Citric Acid, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate
6. Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Facial Moisturizer With Broad Spectrum Spf 30
It was pretty hard to find a moisturizer with an SPF 50 in the drugstore that wasn’t greasy and had harsh chemicals in them. So instead here is one from the drugstore that has an SPF 30 in it and evens out the skin tone with long term use. The texture is very quickly and easily absorbed into the skin. This moisturizer does give you flash back due to the silica and mica in it, so this is definitely a day time moisturizer.
